Ice Fishing Tournament
Looking for something to do as the winter is dragging on? Consider signing up for a local ice fishing tournament.
Bars, bait shops, and communities all around the ice fishing country hold ice fishing tournaments every year. If the winter doldrums have put you in a dumpy mood, look into joining a tournament with some friends. If you feel you aren’t quite the competitor or lack fishing knowledge for the lake, don’t worry about it. Fishing in an ‘event’ always spices things up a little bit and gets those competitive juices flowing through you.
Besides, even if you know you don’t have a chance to catch the biggest or most fish, there are almost always raffle prizes that anyone can win. A few years back, my brother won a brand new Strikemaster auger and gave it to me since he had just purchased a new Jiffy. There were other great prizes in that raffle too. The entry for the tournament was something like $25, and everyone who signed up received a ticket for the raffle.
Just being part of an event could change the way you look at fishing tournaments and turn you into a regular. Besides that, they are usually filled with a bunch of friendly people who openly welcome anyone who joins.
Some places to check your for tournaments near you:
- State natural resources department
- Chamber of commerce
- Bait Shops
- Sporting good stores
- Fishing forums online
Get off your butt and get involved, you might be surprised how much fun you will have.
Good luck fish’n

My name is Brad Bolton, a husband and father of four. I live in Minnesota and I enjoy spending time in the outdoors and also spending time with my family. If there is water nearby, I want to fish it.
