Major League Fishing. I think the name says it all.
Fishing enthusiasts have a new fishing tournament format to look forward to. Some of the best bass fisherman in the world have come together with the Outdoor Channel Network, to bring a different look to televised bass fishing tournaments.
The idea is to give fishing fans, and all fans alike, something they haven’t seen before. A few things that we may see are:
- Surprise tournament locations
- No practice (pre-fishing) days
- Real-time leaderboard in each boat
- No limits on the number of fish weighed
- Implement time-based deadlines and weight-based cut lines
It will be interesting to see how these new rules play out and if they change how we really look at fishing tournaments.
In a society with so many reality shows, it’s in our nature to want to know everything about the people we see on TV. The group that has formed Major League Fishing has this in mind as they will try to show the average person the struggle, emotion, and triumph that fisherman go through in a tournament. We’ll get to see how the best bass fisherman in the world learn new bodies of water, learn how to catch fish there, and what it takes to beat the best of the best.
According to www.majorleaguefishing.com, a weeklong event – the MAJOR LEAGUE FISHING CHALLENGE CUP – will be held later this year. Outdoor Channel will break the event down into different episodes and you’lll get a chance to see it, when it aires in the second quarter of 2012.

My name is Brad Bolton, a husband and father of four. I live in Minnesota and I enjoy spending time in the outdoors and also spending time with my family. If there is water nearby, I want to fish it.
